Castle Weddings

Wedding celebrations in castles bring images of knights, minstrels, and grand medieval feasts. Castles were an integral part of feudal life during the Middle Ages and provided security for those living on the manor. The actual wedding ceremony would have probably been held in the nearby Catholic church, but the castle's grand hall would usually be the scene of the celebration and feast.

Castle Life

The romantic fantasy of life in a castle is somewhat dimmed when juxtaposed with reality. Castles, like most medieval homes, could be cold, damp, and dark. Small windows, if present at all, let in little Sometimes it was warmer and lighter outside the home than within its walls. For security purposes, windows, when they were present, were very small openings with wooden shutters that were closed at night or in bad weather. The small size of the windows allowed those inside to see out, but kept outsiders from looking in.
